For those who prefer libraries full of warm woods and dark fabrics to my favoured bright rooms in pale colours, I give you the Linderman Library at Lehigh University. Now, aside from the atrocious lighting that is unfortunately a feature of most large libraries, this looks like an amazing space though the seating area at the center of the rotunda seems poorly thought out. Those are clearly ‘curl up and read’ chairs rather than ‘sit down and work’ ones and what could be more uncomfortable than trying to lose yourself in a book when you’re in the center of the action, with people always walking by or looking down on you?
I’ve decided there is not dark v. light for me – I just love the beauty of books in a room! All that is lacking here is the fireplace and my cup of coffee. 🙂
Wonderful library! I enjoy the cozy little nooks you post, but, I like the big libraries as well. I will admit, however, that I would be too busy watching the crowds go by in one of these chairs.
And that’s okay too.
Pardon me, but I could eat this place. Breathtaking…And I don’t even use words like breathtaking. I wish my house could look like that. When I get a house.
A wunnerful library, but not for me … I wouldn’t be able to settle to read in such a large space, I prefer cosier places although it’s architecturally spectacular.
