A swan is very high on my list of things I would never have thought of putting in my library/study. But it does compliment its feathered friends perched on top of the bookcase, I will give it that. This definitely has the appearance of a study-focused library, with what appear to be a number of reference books lining the shelves, and I love that. It’s a simple room where I could actually imagine getting work done – though I feel like sharing an office with a stuffed swan might give me nightmares.

That definitely looks more office/workroom than library/reading room, but it’s still attractive, nontheless. I like the fabric (what I can see of it) on the chair on the left and also the wood herrigbone pattern floor with rug; and yes, a swan will now be everyone’s accessory for a library room!
I can’t say I’m particularly keen on white bookshelves but these are possibly ready-made ones in melamine. I prefer dark colours for the shelves, say dark green, terracotta (which ours are), even black, as such colours set off the spines of the books so well (I’ve even seen duck-egg blue shelves and those are attractive, too.) What I do like here is the selection of objects on the top of the bookshelves, they really add interest here.
These shelves look very much like the shelves my husband and I built for my library. We built them in sections so we could cut them all in the basement and assembly them in the library. I guess we could also take them with us when we move. We built mine as close to the ceiling as possible, though, because I hate cleaning and those ‘tops’ look nice but, in my house, are always inches deep in dust. We painted mine off-white because the room is sort of dark. I don’t have a big white swan, but there’s usually a big grey, medium mottled, or small striped cat in ‘my’ chair when I want to read!
Put a bird on it!
Now there’s an idea! Especially if I could find a swan, a bird big enough to intimidate the cats!
I love birds…flying and singing outdoors. The swan couldn’t stay in my house. I, like you, think it might give me nightmares.
I agree, the swan has to go. They’re like prettier geese, but they’re really mean and dangerous. I like the rug though.
The room needs more squash chairs or couches, but maybe they’re on the other side.
